Most often when we don’t force ourselves to pay attention to something, we retain more information about that particular thing. Think about it. How come you remember most things in the newspaper article that you were casually reading than you remember from your Biology textbook that you were trying so hard to memorize? Human brains work in mysterious ways!

With our technology led age, textbooks aren’t the only place you can get your dose of education from. While parents might think you are wasting your time in front of your computer screens, there is a whole dimension of the internet that is anything but a waste of time. YouTube is a great example to showcase that you can learn many interesting things on the internet.

Below are our personal favourite educational YouTube channels and we think they are definitely worth checking out.

If you want to get the latest science buzz and explanations into the most current phenomena happening in the world, SciShow is a great channel to follow! They provide an unbiased insight into the latest developments in the science community with great video content.

If you ever wondered how the smart people on TV know pretty much everything about everything, we think they watch Crash Course on YouTube. This channel is brilliant to get your dose of knowledge on so many different ranges of topics and not limited to just Maths or Science.

This channel has got detailed explanations of various scientific things just like most other channels out there but their style of presentation is quite unique. With a hand drawn like imagery, their videos are very fascinating and do make you feel like you have learned something new today.

One of the most vivid and detailed explanations into all things Science…is a great way to introduce anyone to this channel. It is a German channel but the videos are in English and are actually fun to watch. The level of explanation might not be suited to young students but most students beyond ages 13 should be able to grasp most of the content.

The speed at which trivia is thrown at you might leave you dizzy but if you want to know some of the most interesting facts about a particular topic, this channel is epic. Geography to History to Culture to Popular Science. They’ve got it all!

We’re pretty sure there are so many other great channels that our list doesn’t cover, but we believe true joy lies when you discover amazing things by yourself. So, go out there and check out other amazing educational YouTube channels.

The dreadful feeling that you get….when you remember that you need to study but, there are so many other interesting things you could be doing instead. Such as, catching up with the latest season of Doctor Who on Netflix or playing a quick round of the game you are obsessed with at the moment.

However, you know that if you don’t study now, you will be faced with a monster-sized dread on the exam day. So, you decide to drag your feet towards your books and begin your ever so boring study session.

But have you ever asked yourself as to why does it need to be boring? We upgrade so many things in our lives and make them better. Then, why can’t we upgrade our study sessions? What can we do to make studying enticing? What can we do to our study sessions that make us not want to postpone them as much as we do? Read on then!

1) Use Gamification

If you are gaming fan, use your passion to your advantage. The thrill of scoring points, climbing up the points chart, searing through various levels….ever thought of bringing over all of that to your study sessions? Manually or by using an app, the choice is yours but the end result will definitely be something of use to you.

Dictate points for every study related task. The more tasks you accomplish, the more points you acquire. If you want to take it to the next level, add monetary value to points….100 points could be a £1, it is up to you. Set that money aside from your pocket and use it to buy that truly bring you joy, that too without buyer’s guilt.

2) Rethink Your Study Space

Without breaking the bank, your study space definitely can get an upgrade. Head to your local budget stores for some cute stationery supplies and study décor. At the end of the day, you are more motivated to do something when you are in an environment you like. If you have a desk, place it as close to the window as you possibly can.

Enrich your study space not just visually but also using music. Instrumental or classical music is known to be the least distracting music and it brings another dimension to your session. Choose the music that works the best for you and keep it accessible. It might sound unconventional, but if you have low confidence when it comes to studying a particular subject, listening to battle music while studying for it can make you feel better.

3) Avoid Calling or Making It a Routine

Our brains love and hate familiarity. Being in familiar situations makes it feel safe. However, familiarity breeds boredom like mould breeds on stale bread. Yuck!

You found your best study music playlist. Your desk looks great. You even used gamification. After a month, your study sessions go back to being boring again. What must have gone wrong? You settled and made it your routine, that is what went wrong. We highly suggest that you switch up your study sessions like the DJ switches music in the club. Find new study ideas you like and keep switching in between.

Again, none of this has to be expensive or make your parents furious with your demands. In fact, the more DIY creative you get with your study supplies, the more motivated you can get.

Some assignments are meant to test your knowledge. Some are meant to test your ability. Some meant to test your creativity. But most assignments are meant to check on one thing in common i.e., your linguistic competence.

Whether you are an English speaking native or not, making sure that your assignment has no spelling or grammatical errors is a major priority. However, it is not always easy to manually screen every line for errors. That is where Grammarly comes into play.

Grammarly has been around for quite some time and still proves to be one of the best productivity apps for students. Irrespective of their study level, students can make use of Grammarly to make sure their written work is free of grammatical errors. It checks for spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and style errors.

The best part about Grammarly is that it works around you. You get to choose from several options i.e, British or American English, Formal or Informal writing style. You can have the app running in the background so that it corrects while you are writing. If you find it distracting, you can run the Grammarly check at the very end, after you have finished writing your draft.

There is a premium version, which allows checking for complex writing errors. But the free version is very apt for school essays and assignments and it does the job. We highly recommend having this app as a Word add-on in your arsenal of tools to tackle written assignments. It not only lets you submit your work with confidence but also takes the work out of proofreading.
